The Role
We're hiring a Fractional Project Manager (Senior Software Engineer) to support our internal leadership and serve as a technical project lead in client-facing engagements.
This is a part-time, fully remote contractor role where you’ll guide software projects from discovery through delivery-working closely with clients, designers, and engineering teams to ensure projects stay technically sound, well-scoped, and aligned with business goals.
You’ll act as a technical bridge between clients and our engineering team, helping clarify requirements, shape implementation approaches, and ensure delivery runs smoothly. This role is ideal for a senior full-stack engineer who enjoys technical leadership, project ownership, and client communication without moving into a full-time management role.
What You’ll Do
Lead technical project planning
- Participate in discovery sessions with clients to understand product goals and technical requirements
- Help translate business objectives into clear technical scope and implementation plans
- Identify risks, dependencies, and technical constraints early
Drive engineering execution
- Work closely with engineers and designers to guide development and ensure technical quality
- Help break down features into clear tasks, tickets, and milestones
- Ensure projects stay on schedule and blockers are addressed quickly
Support architecture and technical decisions
- Contribute to system design discussions and recommend practical implementation approaches
- Evaluate trade-offs around tech stack, integrations, scalability, and maintainability
- Help ensure engineering best practices are followed across projects
Facilitate communication with clients
- Join client meetings to explain technical progress, timelines, and challenges
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear updates for non-technical stakeholders
- Keep stakeholders aligned on scope, priorities, and delivery expectations
Maintain delivery visibility
- Track project progress, risks, and blockers across engineering teams
- Ensure clear documentation of decisions, milestones, and technical direction
- Support sprint planning, reviews, and project updates when needed
Improve delivery operations
- Introduce lightweight processes to help teams work more effectively
- Help improve coordination across design, engineering, and client stakeholders
- Support internal teams in maintaining consistent project execution standards
What We’re Looking For
- Native-level English (spoken and written); comfortable leading calls with US clients
- 7+ years of experience as a software engineer, ideally with full-stack development experience
- Experience working on web platforms, APIs, cloud infrastructure, or modern SaaS systems
- Prior experience in technical leadership, tech lead, or project ownership roles
- Strong understanding of software development workflows and agile delivery
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical tasks and engineering plans
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders
- Highly organized and proactive-you help keep projects moving forward
Nice-to-Have
- Experience working with US-based clients or distributed engineering teams
- Background in technical consulting or agency environments
- Experience with modern full-stack ecosystems (Node.js, Python, React, cloud platforms, etc.)
- Exposure to AI-enabled products, data platforms, or complex integrations
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD, and scalable cloud infrastructure
Time & Schedule
- Part-time: typically 5-10 hours/week (may vary by client load)
- Flexible schedule with availability for US time zone meetings when needed
- Fully remote-based anywhere
This is a senior, client-facing technical role where you’ll help guide engineering delivery and maintain strong relationships with clients. Compensation reflects the technical leadership and experience required.
