Position Description
Stellar Collection is seeking a Fractional Chief Marketing Officer to lead brand and digital marketing strategy and execution for the Alaska Tours, Alaska Private Tours and Borealis Basecamp brands. This position will report directly to the CEO with close collaboration with brand General Managers.
Stellar is experiencing rapid growth and needs to develop a unified marketing strategy to support growth and demand generation. This is a highly autonomous, entrepreneurial role for an ambitious person that wants to lead development of the marketing department and “roll up their sleeves” to make a direct impact on the success of the company and its subsidiaries.
The CMO will oversee all aspects of marketing for Stellar and its subsidiary brands. The CMO is the key point person driving marketing decision making and execution for Stellar’s brands including marketing strategy, messaging, review of creative, editorial calendar planning, digital advertising, content marketing, e-marketing, PR/publicity, social media marketing including tactical, programmatic implementation and KPI and ROI tracking.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of brand marketing strategy for Stellar and its subsidiary brands.
- Collaborate with Stellar’s CEO and subsidiary brand General Managers to ensure alignment with overall business goals, brand differentiation, product strategy, customer satisfaction objectives and revenue generation goals.
- Develop annual marketing plan (objectives/priorities, communications platform, promotional campaigns, marketing channels/vehicles, KPIs).
- Review competitive positioning, Alaska tourism market trends and conduct periodic market research with current and potential customer segments to identify targets of opportunity.
- Lead overall brand strategy, messaging and brand awareness and lead generation activities.
- Establish a sales channel management process and measure performance across channels.
- Work with website developers to manage UI/UX, new content/product integration, technical performance, meet SEO objectives and UI/UX.
- Lead SEO strategy and execution (keyword targets, optimization of content, links partners, technical performance).
- Manage content marketing and blog topic /edit calendar development.
- Manage monthly and quarterly e-marketing newsletters and lead generation campaigns.
- Lead PR and publicity activities.
- Respond to all tourism industry advertising opportunities (CVBs, tradeshow, event sponsorships) as necessary.
- Manage digital asset sourcing and social media posting (in house).
- Manage all 3rd party marketing relationships (agencies and contractors) as necessary to achieve marketing objectives.
- Leverage analytics to conduct KPI and ROI performance and optimize marketing tools/techniques and approaches/strategies.
- Provide regular reporting and insights to company leadership about competitive and programmatic performance and ROI, identifying areas for improvement and optimization.
- Stay on top of the latest digital marketing trends and incorporate the latest developments.
Desired Experience and Qualifications
- BA/BS Degree
- Must be located in the U.S. (Alaska location preferred but not required).
- Experience as a consultant (5+ years preferred) as well as executive experience (10-15+ years) as a CMO/VP Marketing/Marketing Lead.
- Travel sector marketing experience. Alaska tourism market familiarity is a plus.
- Strong track record of leadership and specific accomplishments (marketing initiatives tied to results) across past roles.
- Strategic thinker with an entrepreneurial mindset, self-starter, connector.
- Hands-on, attention to detail, highly organized, good communication skills, ability to manage up, team player.
- Ability to identify and solve problems beyond scope of work; willingness to perform a wide variety of tasks and projects. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with excellent organizational skills.
- Deep understanding of digital marketing platforms and tools and proven track record developing lead generation and SEM/PPC campaigns.
