About Us
We build consumer chatbots that combine AI-generated conversations with dynamic, context-aware image generation, focusing on manga and anime styles. Our technology helps users create immersive, visually consistent character experiences from messy chat inputs.
We’re a seed-stage startup, supported by well-known VC firms, and are beginning to expand into a B2B vertical as well.
About the Work
We want stronger technical and strategic direction to improve and build our image generation and data models, so that we can scale more advanced product use cases, including our new B2B offering. We're looking for a Fractional AI Tech Lead to guide our model strategy, system design, and technical roadmap.
Specifically, you'll:
- Review our current LLM and image generation architecture and provide strategic recommendations on innovating our architecture to cater to more advanced product use cases
- Build the playbook for how we will scale to millions of quality image generations per day
- Benchmark our system against other market leading tech stacks - one that stands against market due diligence
- Formulate a data learning system (0 -> 1) to enable capturing, processing and analyzing user signals to improve our models
- Evaluate model choices, training approaches, and fine-tuning strategies
- Solve key challenges like:
- Memory and narrative continuity in image generations
- Extracting visual intent from unstructured roleplay messages
- Guide and develop teams of 2 AI/ML engineers, and 4 web engineers (based in the Philippines) - knowledge transfer is critical
- Be hands-on coding occasionally, as needed
- Work with our Head of Engineering to shape the AI portion of our product roadmap

NOTE: We're also open to folks who believe they can add value with spending more time coding with a bigger time commitment. The compensation range reflects these different types of profiles (more hands-on vs. more strategic guidance).
About You
You MUST have:
- Significant, recent hands-on experience building or fine-tuning image generation models
- Worked with LLMs beyond prompting, including system design or model integration
- Been a "Lead", "Architect", or other senior technical roles that involve guiding other engineers, not just being an individual contributor
- Comfort working in environments where NSFW content may be present (this is not our core focus but it does pop up)
- Can be based anywhere but must offer overlap with EST hours
Some nice-to-haves:
- Experience with consumer AI products like chatbots
- A fan of anime/manga
