Overview

Part-Time | Contract / Fractional Leadership

Hybrid Preferred | Maine

East Coast Cannabis is seeking an experienced, hands-on Fractional Director of Marketing to help lead the next phase of our brand and customer-growth strategy.

This role combines strategic leadership with practical execution. We do not currently have a traditional internal marketing department. The Fractional Director of Marketing will work closely with company leadership, a full-time Events Coordinator who also supports social media, internal departments, and outside vendors.

The ideal candidate can develop the strategy, organize the work, and help ensure campaigns and initiatives are successfully executed.

At East Coast Cannabis, we are building one of Maine’s most recognized cannabis brands. We value collaboration, accountability, innovation, and people who enjoy solving problems and creating measurable business impact.

What You’ll Do

Develop and Execute Marketing Strategy

  • Build a practical marketing strategy aligned with company objectives.
  • Develop annual and quarterly marketing plans and promotional calendars.
  • Identify growth opportunities across retail, wholesale, customer loyalty, and brand awareness.
  • Translate strategy into campaigns, priorities, timelines, and measurable goals.
  • Create marketing and graphic design assets for digital, print, retail, and event initiatives.
  • Design promotional materials including social media graphics, email campaigns, signage, menus, packaging, and other customer-facing collateral.
  • Ensure all creative materials are visually consistent with East Coast Cannabis brand standards.
  • Coordinate with outside designers and printers on larger creative projects when needed.

Lead Marketing Execution

  • Coordinate email, SMS, loyalty, social media, digital, in-store, and event-based campaigns.
  • Work with the Events Coordinator to prioritize events, social content, and local-store marketing.
  • Develop campaign briefs, promotional concepts, customer offers, and communication plans.
  • Coordinate outside agencies, designers, photographers, printers, and other vendors.
  • Ensure marketing initiatives are completed accurately, consistently, and on schedule.

Strengthen Customer Growth and Retention

  • Use customer and transaction data to improve acquisition, retention, visit frequency, and customer lifetime value.
  • Develop customer segmentation and lifecycle-marketing strategies.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of promotions, discounts, loyalty offers, and customer communications.
  • Balance customer growth with gross-margin and profitability objectives.
  • Provide Brand Leadership
  • Strengthen and evolve the East Coast Cannabis brand.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and presentation across customer touchpoints.
  • Guide creative direction for campaigns, product launches, promotions, and seasonal initiatives.
  • Maintain practical brand standards for internal teams and outside vendors.

Measure Performance

  • Establish meaningful marketing KPIs and recurring performance reports.
  • Analyze customer behavior, sales trends, market conditions, and competitor activity.
  • Measure campaign results and marketing return on investment.
  • Present findings and actionable recommendations to company leadership.
  • Partner Across the Business
  • Collaborate with Operations, Retail, Wholesale, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Finance.
  • Support product launches, retail promotions, wholesale initiatives, and expansion opportunities.
  • Establish clear marketing responsibilities, timelines, and approval processes.

Preferred Systems Experience

  • Experience with the following systems, or comparable platforms, is preferred:
  • Dutchie POS, E-commerce, and Dutchie Marketing
  • Alpine IQ or other CRM, loyalty, email, and SMS platforms
  • Hoodie Analytics or comparable market-intelligence tools
  • Google Analytics and digital-reporting platforms
  • Meta Business Suite and social-media management tools
  • Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets

Direct experience with every platform is not required, but candidates should be comfortable learning new systems and using data to guide marketing decisions.

Position Details

  • Fractional contract position
  • Approximately 15–25 hours per week during the initial planning and implementation period
  • Hours may be adjusted as strategies, systems, and processes are established
  • Hybrid preferred; remote candidates with periodic onsite availability in Maine will be considered
  • Competitive hourly rate or monthly retainer based on experience, availability, and agreed-upon deliverable

Required skills

  • 8–10+ years of progressive marketing experience.
  • Previous experience as a Marketing Director, VP of Marketing, Head of Marketing, fractional marketing leader, or similar role.
  • Demonstrated ability to combine strategic planning with hands-on execution.
  • Experience working in a lean organization without a large internal marketing team.
  • Proven success with multi-channel marketing, CRM, loyalty, customer acquisition, and retention.
  • Strong analytical and financial understanding of marketing performance and promotional ROI.
  • Strong communication, project-management, and vendor-management skills.
  • Experience in cannabis, retail, CPG, hospitality, food and beverage, lifestyle brands, or another regulated consumer industry is preferred.

Preferred seniority

Overall: Senior (5+ years) or higher

Cannabis industry: A lot (3+ years) or higher
