About the Job
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated fractional Chief Financial Officer to join our growing professional services firm. This role is crucial for ensuring our company's financial health and stability. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of accounting principles, cash flow management, and financial forecasting, specifically with managing a professional services business. In addition, industry expertise with serving governmental agencies is a plus. You will be a key member of our team, responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, optimizing cash flow, and providing insightful financial reporting to guide strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities
Monthly Bookkeeping and Accounting
- Oversee all aspects of monthly bookkeeping, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant accounting standards (GAAP)
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
- Reconcile bank statements and credit card accounts
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow statement)
Cash Flow Management
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize cash flow and working capital
- Monitor cash flow projections and identify potential risks and opportunities
- Oversee vendor payments and negotiate favorable terms
Financial Forecasting and Analysis
- Develop and maintain financial forecasts to support business planning and decision-making
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement
- Provide insightful financial reports to management, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs) and areas of concern
Financial Systems & Controls
- Evaluate and improve existing financial systems and processes
- Implement robust internal controls to ensure data accuracy and prevent fraud
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks)
Strategic Financial Guidance
- Provide strategic financial advice to the leadership team on matters such as pricing, profitability analysis, and cost optimization
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the company's overall financial strategy
Qualifications
- Proven Experience: 5+ years of experience in a finance leadership role, with a strong focus on bookkeeping, accounting, and cash flow management within a professional services firm
- Industry Expertise: Understanding of working with and serving governmental agencies is a plus
- Technical Skills: Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks), Excel, and other relevant financial tools
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate complex financial data
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. CPA or relevant certifications preferred
