What is Clubs Poker?
We make it dead simple to play poker with your friends for fun. We’re going to make poker look more like Fortnite🚀 and less like a casino🤮 . Sound interesting?
We recently closed a round of funding led by Village Global, along with other angel investors and professional poker players.
What’s our traction?
Clubs Poker is in beta and players are already hosting around 1,000 poker games/month, at an astonishing growth rate of almost 100% month over month.
Players are saying things like...
- “This is the favorite night of the week for more than one of us at the table. Thank you for building the platform that brings so much joy.”
- “Everyone was really impressed. The group agreed that from now on, we will use this instead of Pokerstars for our online poker nights, so keep up the good work! Thanks for the great experience, can't wait to play again.”
Who are you?
You’re an experienced engineer with at least 5 years under your belt, and looking for a chance to dive in to a brand new product, lay the architectural foundations for our future, and help our CEO build out the founding team.
- Our stack is React, HTML5 Canvas, Ruby on Rails, Postgres, AWS. You should have experience with most of these technologies
- You are looking for technical challenges beyond a typical CRUD application. Concurrency problems, network/latency issues, and other real-time game dynamics are either familiar territory for you or get you super excited to learn
- You’re comfortable playing a “tech lead” role, owning technical decisions and leading other engineers in the right direction through mentorship or direct management
- You like poker! This does not mean you need to be a good player by any stretch, but you must know how to play poker and you enjoy it. Bonus points if you’re a gamer.
Fractional expectations
- We're looking for someone to work with us for 10 - 20hrs per week
- You should be able to take a couple meetings per week during normal working hours, but otherwise the role will be mostly asynchronous and can be done on your own time
- It's okay to have a full-time job elsewhere
- We prefer hourly payment but are open to a monthly retainer
- We're open to converting the role to a full-time role after our next funding round
Meet the founder
I’m Taylor! I was a poker player for 4 years, a Product Manager for 10 years, and now the founder & CEO of Clubs Poker. I’m also based in NYC (but you don’t have to be). I am building Clubs Poker to accomplish 3 objectives: 1) Create a bright future for the game of poker, 2) show up every day humbled by the people I get to work with, and 3) make the best damn poker app that players love. If this resonates, I want to meet you.
