About Free The Sheep
Free The Sheep is a rapidly growing, bootstrapped, multimillion-dollar direct-to-consumer e-commerce brand. We have grown approximately 100% year over year for the past three years, building a successful business around innovative comfort and loungewear products, including our bestselling Eden Hoodie™. We sell through Shopify, Amazon, TikTok Shop, and other channels.
We have built this business with an extremely lean team and no traditional corporate infrastructure. We are strong at product development, marketing, and customer acquisition. Now we need an exceptional operator who can take ownership of the increasingly complex operational work that comes with rapid growth.
The Role: Senior Experience, Hands-On Execution
We are looking for an experienced Fractional Head of E-Commerce Operations who can take responsibility for our day-to-day operational execution. This is not a traditional executive position. You will not have a team reporting to you. You are the person responsible for doing the work.
You will work directly with our founders, existing contractors, suppliers, and fulfillment partners. You must be able to think strategically while personally creating purchase orders, maintaining inventory spreadsheets, troubleshooting Shopify, communicating with factories, resolving fulfillment issues, and managing pre-orders.
This is a fast-moving startup environment. There is a substantial amount of work, priorities change quickly, and problems must be solved without layers of support. If you are looking for a role where you delegate execution to a team, this is not the right opportunity.
What You Will Own:
1. Inventory Management & Forecasting
- Personally manage inventory planning across Shopify, Amazon, TikTok Shop, and fulfillment partners.
- Build and maintain demand forecasts using sales velocity, advertising spend, seasonality, and supplier lead times.
- Determine how much inventory to order and when; prevent stockouts, overselling, and excess inventory.
- Reconcile inventory between platforms, warehouses, and suppliers.
- Develop a purchasing model that supports growth without unnecessarily tying up working capital.
2. Supplier Management & Purchase Orders
- Directly communicate with overseas manufacturers and suppliers.
- Personally create, track, and manage purchase orders, production schedules, quantities, deposits, and shipment dates.
- Coordinate new product samples, revisions, approvals, and launches.
- Maintain accurate supplier, SKU, sample, and purchasing records; proactively resolve production delays.
3. 3PL & Fulfillment Operations
- Manage two 3PL partners, one domestic and one international.
- Coordinate inbound shipments, inventory transfers, receiving, and fulfillment.
- Investigate missing inventory, receiving discrepancies, delayed shipments, and order issues.
- Ensure inventory is allocated correctly across locations and coordinate pre-order release schedules.
- Monitor fulfillment performance and hold partners accountable.
4. Shopify Technical Operations & Pre-Orders
- Deep, hands-on Shopify expertise is mandatory.
- Personally manage SKUs, product listings, variants, inventory locations, and order workflows.
- Troubleshoot inventory discrepancies, apps, integrations, and fulfillment routing.
- Configure and maintain pre-order workflows, inventory allocation, and estimated ship dates.
- Fix operational issues yourself rather than relying on an external technical team for every problem.
5. TikTok Shop & Amazon Operations
- Manage inventory availability and operational workflows for TikTok Shop.
- Troubleshoot inventory synchronization and fulfillment issues; keep listings and availability accurate.
- Coordinate Amazon inventory replenishment and FBA workflows; resolve cross-channel issues.
6. Operational Systems & Execution
- Build practical inventory trackers, purchasing models, dashboards, and SOPs.
- Keep production, inventory, purchasing, and fulfillment information accurate and current.
- Identify problems early and automate repetitive tasks where appropriate.
- Provide founders with concise updates and actionable recommendations; own problems through resolution.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of hands-on e-commerce operations, inventory, supply chain, or fulfillment experience.
- Experience working with multimillion-dollar DTC brands.
- Advanced practical Shopify experience, including complex pre-orders and multiple fulfillment locations.
- Direct experience managing international suppliers, purchase orders, forecasting, and replenishment.
- Experience with multiple 3PLs and familiarity with TikTok Shop and Amazon Seller Central.
- Advanced spreadsheet skills, strong operational problem-solving, and independent execution without direct reports.
- Strongly preferred: Apparel experience, high-growth startups, Shopify inventory integrations, and businesses managing significant pre-order volume.
Who Will Succeed Here
You can spot an inventory problem, investigate the data, contact the supplier, update Shopify, coordinate the warehouse, and resolve the issue yourself. You are organized, resourceful, technically capable, and proactive. You enjoy building systems while continuing to execute daily tasks. You thrive in lean, fast-moving environments where you are expected to take ownership and get things done.
Contractor Engagement
This is a part-time, 1099 independent contractor opportunity, averaging approximately 20–30 hours weekly. We seek an established independent operations professional to provide hands-on services under a consulting agreement. This is not a full-time W-2 position and does not include management of a dedicated team. We are looking for a long-term operational partner as Free The Sheep continues to scale.
