About the Science Corps

Science Corps is a small nonprofit that sends young scientists to teach and develop STEM curriculum in less technologically developed parts of the world. For nine years, we've placed early-career STEM PhDs at host sites around the world where they teach hands-on science education to high school and university students. We are presently sending between two and four fellows each year to a site in the Philippines and are considering expanding the program to career sabbaticals. We're a founder-led organization with a track record of meaningful, lasting impact.

The Role

We're looking for someone to take on a quarter-time role focused on two things: growing our fundraising base and increasing the number of fellowship applications. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to help a small, effective nonprofit organization mature and become sustainable.

We're particularly interested in candidates who can help us build stronger ties to the Bay Area's scientific and philanthropic community, given our roots and the concentration of STEM talent and funders here. You will be supported by a program manager based in the Philippines, and the founding team in the US, and report to the CEO.

Responsibilities

Fundraising

  • Identify and cultivate individual donors, family foundations, and corporate giving programs
  • Build and maintain a donor engagement strategy and communications calendar (newsletters, appeals, impact updates)
  • Plan and execute an annual fundraising campaign with impact metrics, success stories, and other relevant material

Applications & Recruitment

  • Optimize global outreach strategy to grow the applicant pool for fellowship positions
  • Build relationships with STEM PhD programs, postdoc offices, and relevant institutions to raise awareness of Science Corps
  • Improve application materials and the candidate experience
  • Support selection committee logistics during the review cycle
  • Develop and execute on a social media strategy for applicants and donors, including LinkedIn, Instagram, FB, BlueSky, Twitter and Science Corps website.

Bay Area Integration

  • Represent Science Corps at relevant local events, science communication meetups, and philanthropic gatherings
  • Build relationships with Bay Area scientists and technologists, especially those who might serve as future donors or link to large Bay Area Tech companies
  • Explore partnerships with local institutions (universities, science nonprofits) that align with our mission
  • Meet with Science Corps leadership team to discuss strategy

Qualifications

  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or a related field
  • Comfort working independently in a small, informal organization
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Genuine interest in science education and international development
  • Existing ties to the Bay Area STEM or philanthropic community are a plus, but not required
  • Experience with or knowledge of the Bay Area technology companies and the Filipino-American cultural, professional, or civic organizations are strong pluses, given our program's focus on the Philippines.
  • A background in science (formal or informal) is helpful for speaking credibly to our mission, though not required

What We Offer

  • Flexible, part-time schedule suited to someone balancing other work or commitments
  • Direct, meaningful involvement in a growing organization with a clear track record
  • Close collaboration with our founder and current fellows
  • Compensation: estimated $20,000–$24,000 annually for this 25% position, commensurate with experience
