About The job

We're seeking a Fractional Senior Data Engineer to serve as both strategic advisor and hands-on lead for Avnir's data infrastructure. This part-time contract role combines high-level architectural guidance with direct mentorship of our engineering team, focusing on cost-effective scaling of our contact intelligence platform's data operations.

Strategic Responsibilities

Data Warehouse Strategy & Operations:

• Analyze and optimize BigQuery/GCP data warehouse architecture
• Develop cost management strategies for large-scale data operations
• Design burst ingestion patterns for quarterly 300M+ record loads
• Architect cost-effective enrichment source integration
• Implement comprehensive observability and monitoring (Sentry integration)
• Provide I/O optimization recommendations for fetching and caching layers

Technical Leadership

Team Guidance & Development:

• Guide as needed PT full-stack engineer on data handling practices
• Collaborate directly with CTO (Pete Karl II) on technical architecture decisions
• Design and review data transformation workflows

Hands-On Development:

• Modify/redesign production data transformations using DBT
• Implement deduplication algorithms and strategies
• Design filtering and data quality systems
• Develop entity resolution frameworks and matching logic
• Create scalable data pipeline architectures

Required Experience

Core Technical Skills:

• Senior-level experience with BigQuery and Google Cloud Platform
• Production DBT development and data transformation design
• Large-scale data ingestion and processing (100M+ records)
• Cost optimization strategies for cloud data warehouses
• Entity resolution and data matching methodologies

Leadership & Strategy:

• Experience mentoring junior engineers on data engineering practices
• Track record of data architecture decision-making
• Ability to balance technical debt with feature velocity
• Strong communication skills for technical strategy discussions
