About Us
We're a growing insurtech startup that's modernizing the way insurance is sold and serviced through technology. Our core platform handles all insurance operations, and we're launching a new R&D initiative to explore AI-driven insurance solutions, leveraging our existing APIs and infrastructure.
We are a profitable company with over 150 employees, backed by a major European insurer, and operate primarily in Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands.
About the Work
We're looking for a Senior Fractional or Interim AI Engineer who can level-up our approach to AI and help us ship our MVP.
Specifically, you'll:
- Design and ship an AI assistant that sells, services, and handles claims
- Start with a chat-led quote → pay → issue flow, then automate common policy changes, then claims intake → decisioning
- Make technical decisions on your own, you'll have full ownership of technical execution
- Work across the full stack, though with an emphasis on the AI system
- Work with two other full-stack engineers and a PM
Tech stack:
- React / Node (Typescript)
- Python
- AI/ML: Deep learning frameworks (PyTorch preferred, TensorFlow/JAX a plus)
- NLP & LLMs (Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain, OpenAI/Anthropic APIs, RAG pipelines)
- Databases: SQL (Postgres) and Vector DBs (Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS, or similar)
We're looking for someone for a 3+ month engagement, for 20 - 40 hrs / week. We can extend based on our progress and mutual fit.
About You
You MUST have:
- Comfortable designing scalable, production-grade AI systems with APIs
- AI expertise beyond prompt engineering
- You can deploy models
- Comfortable with fine-tuning
- Know how to deal with large context windows
- Have built evals and set up tracing/observability
- Understand what it looks like to use LLMs in production
- A full-stack background (React + Node at a minimum)
- Based in time zones +/- 6 hrs from CET
- Europe, East Coast USA, etc.
Nice-to-haves:
- Payment processing experience
- German language proficiency
- Insurtech / fintech experience
- Pandas, NumPy, and familiarity with large-scale data (Spark/Ray)
- Model serving (TorchServe, Triton, BentoML)
- Workflow orchestration (Airflow, Prefect, Kubeflow)
