Digital Acoustics is a long-established innovator in Ethernet-based intercom, paging, and mass-notification solutions. Our products integrate VoIP/IoIP technology to enable emergency voice paging, audio distribution, and two-way communication across security, education, retail, hospitality, transportation, government, and other critical markets worldwide. We design and manufacture hardware and software platforms tailored to real-world customer needs — and we are now preparing our next generation of industrialized devices.
We’re seeking a part-time technical leader (approx. 1–2 days per week) to guide our hardware, firmware, and software teams as we move several custom electronics platforms from prototype → manufacturable, scalable, industrialized products.
Who This Role Is Ideal For
A senior engineer or technical leader (hardware or firmware background preferred) who has moved beyond hands-on design into program leadership, operations, or productization. You won’t be required to code or design hardware day-to-day, but you must be fluent in:
- SOM/Linux-based embedded systems
- SMT manufacturing processes
- PCB design and review
- Certification and compliance paths
Perfect for a semi-retired COO, VP of Engineering, Program Director, or Technical PM who has taken electronics products through industrialization and enjoys being the bridge between engineers, vendors, manufacturers, and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the transition from engineering prototypes to reliable, repeatable, manufacturable products
- Coordinate daily activity across hardware, firmware, and software teams
- Work directly with contract manufacturers on SMT assembly, DFM, BOM optimization, and production planning
- Oversee testing, quality control, and regulatory compliance (FCC, CE, UL where applicable)
- Help the team structure documentation, workflows, and processes that support scale
- Provide strategic guidance on component selection, lifecycle management, and long-term manufacturability
Required Technical Background
- 10+ years in technical program management, operations, or product industrialization
- Strong Electrical Engineering foundation: SMT production, parts sourcing, PCB CAD/schematic review
- Familiarity with embedded Linux, modern SOMs, networking, and processor-level communications
- Experience with audio-related technologies (DSP, codecs, interfaces) a significant plus
- Deep understanding of electronics manufacturing and certification workflows
- Ability to evaluate engineering tradeoffs, manage timelines, and keep cross-functional programs aligned
- Ideal candidate will have access to their own basic development and test equipment (HW + SW)
