About Us
We're a unique school district that combines traditional on-campus learning with alternative education programs across the state of Michigan, serving over 8,000 students.
Our focus is on using technology and data to improve the student experience.
About the Work
We have tons of data that we believe can be better organized and actioned to save our staff time and help our students excel. We're looking for a Fractional Head of Data & Engineering to help us build a technology foundation that supports the school system of the future.
Specifically, you'll:
- Audit our current data stack, which includes heavy use of Google Sheets and other silo'ed databases
- Lead us through several key initiatives, including:
- Centralize our data across departments, and modernize our ability to view, analyze, and store this data
- Build innovative new solutions that leverage our unique data. Some examples include:
- Personalized AIs for our students to get 24/7 help, already trained on their specific learning styles via our data
- Automate mundane teacher tasks, so teachers can spend more time with students
- Determine which solutions we should solve with custom software vs. using off-the-shelf options
- Work alone to start, but then potentially bring in more engineering / data engineering contractors to do execution work as needed
- Partner closely with school leadership, acting as our trusted steward on all things engineering
About You
You MUST have:
- Held engineering and data leadership roles (e.g., CTO, Head of, Director of, etc. )
- Led large-scale data projects for legacy orgs
- Recent AI work
- Exposure to highly regulated industries, e.g. education, healthcare, financial services, public sector
- Product sense, good intuition for what the right solution is for our "customers" (students and teachers)
- Significant past client work
- this should not be your first fractional and/or consulting role
- Able to work full overlap with USA time zones
