As our growth continues to accelerate, we're looking for a fractional Financial Controller to join our team and work directly with our CEO and VP of Operations to assist with financial reporting, tax compliance, accounting, bookkeeping, HR, payroll, and vendor expense management.
We are fully self-owned. Since our founding in 2016, we've bootstrapped ourselves into a profitable company with a proven business model, great relationships with game publishers, experience executing across multiple game franchises, high NPS, and a following of millions of loyal customers.
Across our two existing products, hsreplay.net and untapped.gg, we are the market leader in digital card game analytics with over 2 billion games tracked to date between Hearthstone, Battlegrounds, Mercenaries, Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, MARVEL SNAP, and Magic: The Gathering Arena. We're proud to have already positively enhanced the lives of over 23 million players worldwide.
HearthSim is a fully remote business, with team members in Vancouver, Texas, New York, Colorado, Massachusetts, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, and Argentina. As this position is part time, the hours when work is performed are flexible, and can be managed around other professional obligations.
Successful candidates will previously have had significant responsibility for a multi-member LLC’s accounting, taxes, and finances. Preference will be given to candidates who are passionate about the gaming industry, or who have experience with LLCs with foreign members.
Job Responsibilities
- Handle all tax-related activities such as end-of-year tax preparation, submitting R&D tax credits, handling tax forms, and other pertinent activities.
- Maintain various monthly financial spreadsheets, reports, budgets, and forecasts.
- Supervise the monthly bookkeeping processes, including tracking cash owed and due to members.
- Set up and operate payroll, handle expense tracking and reimbursements.
- Facilitate various financial processes like paying and tracking marketing affiliates and other vendors.
- Manage company bank accounts and credit cards, make sure excess cash is being managed efficiently.
- Manage and maintain the company’s business insurance policies, worker’s comp policies, etc.
- Produce ad-hoc financial analysis for large projects with financial complexity. (e.g. acquisition)
- Assist with HR matters such as independent contractor agreements, statements of work, IP agreements, and confidential information agreements.
- Improve company documentation and record keeping processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business, accounting, or related field
- Prior experience managing the books for an LLC (ideally with foreign partners)
- 5+ years of experience as a senior-level accounting or finance professional
- Expert knowledge of Quickbooks & Google Sheets
- Knowledge of US Federal and State tax regulations and compliance reporting
- Prior experience with HR related matters
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification, such as CPA (certified public accountant) or CA (chartered accountant)
