Finance Controller

Part-Time | Remote | Month-to-Month, Renewable

Approximately 10–15 hours per month

We're engaging an independent fractional finance consultant to help coordinate our multi-entity financial operations. Working as an independent contractor, this person will act as a coordination point between leadership and our external accounting, tax, and legal partners to help keep our finances organized and our compliance calendar on track.

This is not a bookkeeping role. Day-to-day bookkeeping, accounts receivable, and payroll are handled by an external partner. We're looking for a senior consultant who can help us oversee financial operations at the systems and process level and strengthen our internal controls.

Scope of engagement

• Help monitor cash movements and financial workflows across business units (reporting and review; no signing or disbursement authority).
• Act as a coordination point with our bookkeeping, tax, and legal partners.
• Help ensure monthly close inputs are complete and support our partners' tax-planning work.
• Track and help coordinate recurring corporate compliance items — annual filings, franchise taxes, entity registrations, and DBAs — working with our licensed advisors.
• Flag and route IRS and state agency notices to the appropriate licensed professionals, and help track resolution. (Filings, representation, and corrections are handled by our licensed tax advisors.)
• Help organize documentation and inputs for our outside counsel. (All legal documents are drafted and finalized by licensed attorneys.)

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

• Experience in financial operations, controllership, or multi-entity accounting.
• Comfort working with external vendors and cross-functional leadership.
• Strong working knowledge of corporate compliance processes and internal controls.
• Ability to work in a modern, cloud-based, async workflow.
• Clear, organized communication and strong follow-through.

Ideal background

• Experience supporting multi-entity businesses, agencies, SaaS companies, or media/publishing operations.
• Familiarity with corporate compliance calendars, tax coordination, and financial controls.
• Someone who operates at the systems and process level rather than the transaction level.

Nice to have

• Startup or growth-stage experience.
• Familiarity with tools such as Mercury, Gusto, HubSpot, Hubstaff, Notion, and Slack.
• Prior fractional finance, consulting, or advisory engagements.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a flexible, low-hour independent consulting engagement for a senior finance professional who wants meaningful ongoing work without a full-time commitment. As an independent contractor, you'll set your own approach and hours within the agreed scope, use your own tools and methods, and may work with other clients. This engagement does not include authority to sign on company accounts, disburse funds, file taxes, represent the entities before tax authorities, or execute legal agreements — those functions remain with company leadership and our licensed advisors.
