Role Overview
As Director of Marketing & Communications, you’ll lead the storytelling, growth, and brand strategy efforts that bring Burlap & Barrel’s mission to life. You’ll own how we show up across digital platforms, press, packaging, and community engagement, helping us scale awareness, grow our customer base, and strengthen our brand identity — all while staying deeply rooted in our values.
Key Responsibilities
Brand Strategy & Voice
- Own and evolve the brand voice, visual identity, and customer-facing messaging across all channels.
- Develop integrated marketing campaigns that connect our sourcing stories, product launches, partnerships, and impact.
Digital Marketing & Growth
- Oversee e-commerce marketing, including paid efforts on Google, Meta, Amazon, and affiliate with our Digital Marketing Lead - and evaluate and set up systems for new channels such as TikTok or influencer marketing.
- Analyze performance metrics (CAC, LTV, ROAS) and optimize campaigns accordingly. Must have excellent command of analytics through these channels.
- Optimize the customer journey across the website to drive engagement, conversion, and repeat purchasing with the Site & E-commerce Lead.
- Manage the email marketing calendar (Klaviyo), product drops, and content strategy with the copy lead. Design and execute email flows strategy with the site & e-commerce lead.
Influencer & Community Engagement, Partnerships
- Identify and manage influencer and chef partnerships.
- Lead community-driven campaigns, giveaways, and brand ambassador initiatives.
- Collaborate with partner organizations on co-branded campaigns, co-branded products, and other partnerships with our Partnership & Product Lead.
Creative & Content Oversight
- Lead static and video content development (photography, video, copy) in collaboration with designers and freelance creators.
- Ensure consistent creative output across web, social, print, and retail packaging.
Public Relations
- Work with Co-CEOs and publicist to build storytelling arcs that tie our sourcing, quality, and mission into consumer-facing narratives.
Customer Service
- Oversee customer service team and continuously evaluate and improve customer experience.
- Lead incorporation of ChatAI system to enhance rapid customer service response.
Management
- Manage team of 8 (and growing) on the Marketing & Communications team, including partnerships & product lead, site/e-commerce lead, digital marketing lead, copy lead, customer service team, and PR lead.
- Report to Co-CEOs and communicate with the leadership team: Director of Operations & Director of Wholesale
You Might Be a Great Fit If You…
- Are a strategic thinker who thrives on storytelling, analytics, and mission-driven branding.
- Have 5–8+ years of experience in marketing or comms at a food, CPG, or mission-driven brand.
- Have a strong creative eye and deep understanding of digital channels.
- Know how to manage external partners, creators, agencies, and an internal team.
- Care deeply about ethical sourcing, food equity, and making complex supply chains more transparent and accessible.
