Role Description
The 8 - 10 hour per week Fractional Controller is a part-time, on-site role for a half day a week in Brandon, in the Tampa Bay area, responsible for overseeing accounting operations and financial reporting for the licensed Starbucks locations. We have a current bookkeeper and office admin in place and are replacing our part-time Controller as she retires. This role manages the month-end and year-end close processes, prepares and reviews financial statements, and ensures compliance with GAAP and internal policies. The Fractional Controller monitors cash flow, budgets, and forecasts, analyzes variances, and provides financial insights to support decision-making by ownership and operations leadership.
Responsibilities include supervising bookkeeping activities, reviewing reconciliations, and coordinating with external accountants, auditors, and banks. The role also supports internal controls, implements process improvements, and provides financial guidance to store and regional managers.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in accounting, including general ledger management, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Experience with cost control, cash flow management, and financial analysis in a multi-unit retail, restaurant, or hospitality environment is preferred.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks, POS reporting, and spreadsheet tools (e.g., Excel or Google Sheets) for data analysis and reporting.
- Knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and compliance practices, with the ability to design and refine accounting processes and procedures.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy under tight deadlines.
- Clear, professional communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders and collaborate with operations leaders.
- Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks across multiple locations, and maintain confidentiality of financial information.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or progress toward certification is a plus.
- Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accountant; experience in franchised or licensed brand environments is an advantage.
