Under limited supervision, the Fractional Controller (CPA) provides periodic financial review and accounting support to ensure accurate and consistent financial reporting for Hubbard Family Swim Schools. Working closely with the Bookkeeper and leadership team, this role reviews monthly financial statements, identifies unusual activity, assists with journal entries, and supports basic intercompany and reporting needs. The Fractional Controller (CPA) is committed to fulfilling all duties with ethical conduct, professional judgment, and responsive service. This position requires strong attention to detail, sound decision-making, organization, and personal responsibility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilites

- Assures staff and leadership support that exemplifies HFSS’s Core Values: Everyone is Family, Do Small Things With Great Love, Whatever It Takes, and Embrace Learning.
- Reviews monthly Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss statements for reasonableness, accuracy, and consistency.
- Identifies unusual variances or account activity and communicates questions or concerns to the Bookkeeper or leadership.
- Assists with preparing and recording journal entries, reclassifications, and corrections as needed.
- Reviews management fee calculations and related accounting entries.
- Reviews and monitors Due To / Due From balances across entities for consistency and accuracy.
- Assists with reconciliation and review of prepaid expenses and amortization schedules.
- Reviews Accounts Payable summaries to ensure proper expense timing and classification.
- Assists with preparation of monthly financial reports for leadership review.
- Supports posting of finalized reports to shared drives and assists with documentation organization.
- Provides supplemental schedules, explanations, or financial support when requested.
- Assists with quarterly consolidated reporting as needed.
- Supports annual close activities, including intercompany equity adjustments.
- Assists with compliance-related filings such as PCORI, when applicable.
- Documents review notes, questions, and follow-up items clearly and accurately.
- Communicates professionally and clearly with internal staff and leadership.
- Provides a high level of internal customer service through responsiveness, follow-through, and attention to detail.
- Continuously learns and applies best practices appropriate for a small, multi-entity organization.
- Adheres to all corporate policies and provides constructive feedback on accounting processes when appropriate.
- Maintains flexibility with schedule within agreed-upon monthly hour limits.
- Attends meetings or check-ins as scheduled.
- At all times, acts as a role model to swimmers, staff, and leadership through professionalism and integrity.
Organizational Relationships
Works internally with the Bookkeeper, ownership, and leadership team. Works externally with accountants or other financial professionals as needed. This role is advisory and supportive in nature and collaborates closely with operational leadership.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting or financial review experience preferred.
- Experience working with small businesses or multi-entity organizations preferred.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office software.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong understanding of standard accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Personal acceptance and demonstration of the four Core Values of Hubbard Family Swim School.
- CPA preferred, but not required.
