The Person
As our Fractional Controller, you’ll work directly with the CEO to stabilize and improve our finance operations. You’ll oversee a small accounting team, map and document processes, implement internal controls, and coordinate with external auditors and vendors. Once the foundation is set, you’ll also help analyze costs, support product pricing, and recommend system improvements.
Job Responsibilities
- Leadership & Oversight: Guide our accounting lead and offshore team members. Ensure day-to-day finance tasks are well-structured and completed on time.
- Process Mapping & Controls: Document and improve finance processes, and implement internal controls to ensure audit readiness.
- External Coordination: Act as the point of contact for our annual financial statement review (not a full audit) and annual revenue audit. Work with the fractional CFO on monthly GAAP conversions and lender reporting.
- Cost & Pricing Analysis: Analyze cost of services sold, monitor vendor spend, and provide input on product
Qualifications
- 8–15+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including Controller or Senior Accountant level in a small/mid-sized business.
- Strong understanding of SaaS / UCaaS or other recurring-revenue businesses, including COSS, MRR, churn, and revenue recognition concepts.
- Demonstrated experience cleaning up messy books, processes, and systems—not just maintaining order someone else created.
- Comfortable working part-time and hands-on (QuickBooks, Excel, billing systems, reconciliations), while also designing controls and processes.
- Experience liaising with CPAs, auditors, lenders, and regulatory/compliance vendors.
- Strong communication skills, able to translate finance into straightforward, actionable insights for a CEO.
- Process- and documentation-oriented, with a bias for getting things out of people’s heads and into written procedures.
Functional Competencies
- Expertise in cash flow and expense management.
- Proficiency in financial software and tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Telecom experience is a plus.
