TaxMD is a next-generation, AI-enhanced tax planning platform built on a modern microservices architecture. We already have:
- A full engineering team of 30+ (backend, frontend, QA, DevOps, PM, BA, AI)
- A dedicated AI consultant and U.S.-based software advisor
- A fully defined technical design, microservices model, DevOps infrastructure, and documentation
- A scheduled product launch in Jan 2026 and March 2026. Two product.
What we don’t have yet is a Fractional Senior Technical Leader who can review, refine, optimize and accelerate everything our team has built. That’s where you come in.

Role Overview
We are hiring a Fractional CTO who will step in immediately to:
- Review system architecture, microservices, data models, and DevOps pipelines
- Review backend/frontend code quality and enforce production-grade patterns
- Identify scalability, performance, and maintainability gaps
- Guide the engineering team to meet our March 2026 release
- Ensure the codebase is “investor-ready” and can handle thousands of concurrent users
- Provide hands-on recommendations, PR-level reviews, and coaching to mid-level developers
- Evaluate AI integration (LLM, RAG, embeddings, orchestration) for correctness and performance
- Review resource and timeline
If performance is strong, this role may convert into a full-time CTO after launch
What You Will Lead
1. Architecture Review & Optimization
- Validate and refine our microservices architecture (19+ services)
- Review API gateway design, routing, rate limiting, tenant isolation
- Assess Python/Django + FastAPI + Next.js structure
- Validate Postgres, MongoDB, Redis, and S3/MinIO usage
- Strengthen multi-tenancy and security layer
- Improve caching and performance across services
2. Code Review & Best Practices
You will systematically review:
- Backend Python code quality (Django, DRF, FastAPI microservices)
- Frontend architecture (Next.js 14+, React 18+)
- API design conventions
- Repository structure, naming standards, and testing discipline
- CI/CD workflow (GitHub Actions, Terraform, EKS deployment)
3. DevOps & Infrastructure
- Validate our EKS setup, autoscaling, logging, and observability
- Review Terraform modules, IaC structure, and secrets management
- Ensure architecture can scale during tax season traffic
- Examine disaster recovery, redundancy, and RPO/RTO compliance
4. AI Architecture & Integration
- Evaluate LLM strategy (Bedrock → Self-hosted Mistral)
- Review RAG implementation, embedding strategy, vector DB design
- Validate model orchestration via LangChain or custom pipelines
- Build guardrails for output reliability and compliance
5. Team Leadership & Process Improvement
You will work closely with our:
- Product Manager
- AI consultant
- Backend leads
- Frontend leads
- DevOps/SRE
- QA automation team
Your role is to elevate them—not replace them.
What We Are Looking For
Technical Experience. We’re looking for a real builder, not a corporate manager.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- 10+ years engineering experience, 5+ years in senior leadership
- Deep experience with Python/Django, microservices, REST APIs, and scalable architectures
- Strong knowledge of AWS (EKS, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch)
- Comfort reviewing Next.js + React code
- Experience with Redis, PostgreSQL, MongoDB
- Strong DevOps background (CI/CD, Terraform, containerization, Kubernetes)
- Experience delivering AI-driven features, preferably LLM/RAG implementations
- Ability to guide mid-level engineers and enforce best practices
Nice to Have:
- Fintech/Regtech/SaaS experience
- SOC2 / IRS 1075 style compliance background
- Experience with tax engines, financial models, or complex rules engines
What Success Looks Like
In 90 days, you will have:
- Completed full codebase and architecture review
- Delivered a prioritized technical risk assessment
- Improved CI/CD, release management, and code quality standards
- Guided dev team with corrective action plans
- Ensured TaxMD’s codebase is stable, scalable, and investor-ready
By March 2026, you will have:
- Led the platform to a clean, stable launch
- Established engineering processes that run like a real SaaS company
- Positioned yourself as a strong candidate to step in as full-time CTO
