About Us
We’re a nonprofit building scalable AI systems to provide immediate, evidence-based support at the moment young people need it most. Our approach is to reach young people where they are — online — and embed our mental health interventions into the platforms they use every day.
Existing partnerships include TikTok, Discord, Tumblr, etc. We've reached over 4 million people so far, mostly adolescents, and we are growing fast.
About the Work
Our co-founder / CTO is stepping back, and so we're looking for a Fractional CTO to fill their shoes as we embark on an ambitious roadmap in 2025 and beyond.
Specifically, you'll:
- Own and evolve our platform architecture
- Manage a small remote engineering team
- Work on things like:
- Our new Discord bot integration
- LLM applications for mental health
- Building agents to identify dangerous content on major platforms (e.g. Tiktok)
- Plenty of prototyping of new ideas
- Be hands-on in the codebase as needed
- Evaluate and improve the performance of our AI models across all our products
Tech Stack:
- We have 7 repos
- Ruby on Rails & Rust backends
- React frontends
This is a highly flexible fractional role. Think ~20-30 hours a week, fully remote, with No-Meeting Fridays. You can pursue other projects, research, or consulting, so long as you can commit to our mission and dive into code when needed.
About You
You MUST have:
- Led engineering teams as a CTO, Head of, Director, etc.
- Deep AI / ML expertise - you've been shipping AI products for years, not just post-ChatGPT. You're comfortable with concepts like:
- Evaluating and tuning ML models
- Precision and recall
- Building balanced datasets
- Backend engineering expert (RoR or Rust preferred)
- You write code regularly and are comfortable being hands-on in the codebase as needed
- Based in the USA or Canada
Nice-to-haves:
- Significant and large-scale consumer-facing product work
- Interesting side projects
- Data Science background
- Passion for AI ethics
