Fractional CFO — Gaming / Agency / Services

We’re looking for a fractional CFO to help strengthen the financial foundation of VAL, which has been in operations for 10 years. This is an all remote role.

The Virtual Athletics League (VAL) is an both startup, leading agency in the VR space, and a publisher. We have the same network of investors who backed Tesla, Hotmail, and Skype.

We have worked directly with Meta on many supported projects including some of the most high profile in VR. Previously we have worked with Nerf, The Walking Dead, Metro, Alien, Hello Neighbor, and others like Gorilla Tag.

This is not a pure bookkeeping or controller role or day to day finance tasks.

The ideal candidate has financial clarity, structure, and judgment while also helping mentor the team and experience in pricing and building robust invoice collection systems.

The ideal person has experience in one or more of the following:

• gaming
• agencies or service businesses
• project-based or retainer-based revenue environments
• companies where cash flow, forecasting, margins, and operational decision-making all matter a lot

Core job duties

• Building and improving core financial structures, reporting, and forecasting
• Helping ensure the company has the right finance systems and rhythms in place
• Advising on cash flow, budgeting, profitability, and planning
• Bringing sharper visibility into margins, revenue quality, and financial decision-making
• Supporting leadership with strategic financial thinking, not just historical reporting
• Mentoring internal team members and helping improve finance-related accountability and maturity
• Identifying gaps, weak spots, and opportunities in our current finance operations

What we’re looking for

• Significant experience in a CFO or senior finance leadership role
• Strong command of financial planning, cash flow management, forecasting, and operational finance
• Ability to work well in an entrepreneurial environment that is growing and evolving
• Someone practical, direct, and capable of building order without creating unnecessary bureaucracy
• Ideally, experience with gaming, media, agencies, or similar project-driven businesses

This is a fractional / part-time role. We’re open to different structures depending on fit, but we’re looking for someone who can be meaningfully involved enough to improve decision-making and help the team grow.
