Position Overview
Peace House is seeking an experienced fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide strategic financial leadership and oversight. This part-time, contract or employee position is ideal for a seasoned financial professional who is passionate about nonprofit work and committed to advancing our mission. Peace House is dedicated to ending interpersonal violence and abuse and empowering survivors to heal and thrive by providing safe housing, support services and prevention education.
The fractional CFO will collaborate with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and key stakeholders to ensure financial sustainability, regulatory and policy compliance, and optimal resource allocation to Peace House operations. This role involves high-level financial planning, budgeting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Oversight:
- Develop and support the implementation of short-term and long-term financial strategies to achieve organizational goals and promote organizational capacity and capability.
- Advise leadership on financial planning, forecasting, and resource allocation.
- Monitor cash flow, investments, and asset management to ensure sustainability.
Budgeting & Reporting:
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop annual budgets and multi-year financial plans.
- Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Analyze financial trends of the organization and/or general NGO sector and provide recommendations for corrective actions when needed.
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP) and all relevant regulatory requirements.
- Manage financial audits, tax processes, and prepare necessary documentation for auditors and regulators.
- Help identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.
Grants & Fundraising Support:
- Provide guidance on restricted and unrestricted funding management.
- Provide guidance on IRS fundraising regulations.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to provide financial insights that guide strategic decisions.
- Present financial reports to Finance Committee and Board of Directors
- Train and mentor finance staff as needed.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, and related fields (Master’s or CPA preferred).
- Minimum of five years of progressive financial leadership experience, including experience in the nonprofit sector.
- Experience with fund accounting, grant management, and financial audits.
Skills & Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of nonprofit fiscal management and compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Excel.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication abilities and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.
Contract Terms:
- Hours: Estimated 15–40 hours per month (flexible schedule). May require more hours in the first 2-3 months to onboard effectively.
- Compensation: Competitive hourly or project-based rate commensurate with experience.
- Contract or Employee position, depending upon the agreed scope of work.
