About The Role
We’re seeking a seasoned and proactive Fractional Controller and CFO to join our leadership team on a part-time basis. This role is ideal for a finance professional who thrives in a hands-on environment and is looking to make a meaningful impact in a growing company. You’ll oversee core financial operations, provide accurate and timely reporting, and help shape budgeting and forecasting processes. Over time, there will be an opportunity to take on a strategic role, contributing financial insight to support our broader business goals.
Key Accountabilities
Financial Oversight & Reporting
· Prepare and review accurate financial reports and monthly close activities
· Conduct reviews of ledgers, WIP, and AR to identify anomalies or opportunities
· Present financial results to the President and management team, offering insights and analysis
· Oversee GST returns and ensure timely submission
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Management
· Partner with the President and accounting team to develop and refine budgets and forecasts
· Recommend improvements to budgeting processes for efficiency and alignment with company goals
· Monitor sales invoicing and AP to maintain healthy cash flow management
Accounting Operations
· Provide general guidance and oversight to the internal accounting function
· Maintain and reconcile head office records (Sage) with operational records
· Support office manager in preparing documentation for annual insurance renewals
· Provide quarterly financial reports to meet Board requirements
· Collaborate with external accounting firm for year-end preparation and CRA audits or reviews
· Support banking relationships with timely financial updates and participation in quarterly and annual reviews
Strategic Contributions (Long-Term)
· Partner with the President, providing financial insights to guide business decisions
· Analyze cost structures, product & service profitability, and recommend strategies for improvement
· Perform scenario modelling and financial impact assessments on business initiatives
What You'll Bring Along
· A detail-oriented financial professional with a CPA designation (or equivalent experience)
· Minimum of 10 years in progressively senior finance roles, ideally including controller-level experience
· Experienced with Sage (or similar accounting systems) and confident managing AR, AP, and cash flow in a hands-on way
· Comfortable working independently and part-time, while still collaborating closely with leadership
· Bonus if you’ve worked in manufacturing and project-based industries
Engagement Details
· Fractional/Part-Time: Estimated average of 35 hours per month, with flexibility
· Location: Based in Alberta. Hybrid/remote considered
· Term: Ongoing contract, with potential to expand role scope over time
