About Us
We design furniture that is sold through retailers across the USA and Canada. Our team manages design, development, and marketing in-house, while manufacturing is handled by partners overseas.
We have been in business for over 25 years, have about 30 employees, and generate $20 - $30MM annual revenue.
About the Work
We need to re-assess the viability of our business model and improve profitability in the face of rising tariffs and industry changes. We're looking for a fractional CFO to evaluate our current financial situation, guide high-level planning, and advise on key decisions about the company's future.
Specifically, you'll:
- Conduct a comprehensive audit of our finances, processes, tooling, and team structure
- Develop a financial strategy to address all the new import tariffs we're facing
- Build financial models and scenario plans for different business outcomes
- Recommend and help implement better financial systems and technology
- Identify ways to cut costs where appropriate
- Advise on inventory management, import/export, and credit line usage
- Act as a thought partner to the founder/owner to decide the best path forward for the business - invest more, downsize, push for an exit?
About You
You MUST have:
- Played CFO, VP Finance, or Head of roles for companies importing hard goods (furniture, home decor, electronics, sporting goods, appliances, home renovation materials, or other consumer products)
- If you've not had exposure to importing hard goods, we won't be the right fit
- Significant import / export / tariff expertise, preferably from countries like China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, etc.
- A deep understanding of proper inventory management
- Strong FP&A fundamentals
- Based on the east coast USA or Canada only, for time zone reasons and easy travel to our HQ in the Mid-Atlantic area
Some nice-to-haves:
- Furniture experience specifically
- You've led business turnarounds
- Prior M&A work
