Immuto Scientific is on a mission to transform drug discovery by unlocking the hidden structural biology of human disease. We are developing a proprietary AI platform to predict protein structures directly from patient samples and tumor models—leveraging data no one else has. Our platform is designed to go beyond existing models by integrating proprietary mass spectrometry data that reveals in vivo protein conformations in complex biological systems, including tumors.

To guide this effort, we are seeking a Fractional Chief Data and AI Officer (CDAO)—a senior technical leader with deep experience in AI/ML development, cloud infrastructure, and data strategy in the biotech/pharma industry. This is a unique opportunity to architect an AI-powered engine for novel target discovery, shape our end-to-end data strategy, oversee model development, and build a team that will redefine the frontiers of structural biology and target identification by translating unprecedented data into transformative therapeutics.

Role Overview

As Chief Data and AI Officer, you’ll define and execute Immuto’s data and AI strategy—architecting a machine learning platform that integrates our proprietary structural datasets into predictive models of protein conformation. You’ll lead the design, development and deployment of this model, working closely with the founding team and technical staff to drive novel target discovery and real-world therapeutic impact. As a member of the executive team, you’ll shape company strategy and represent our AI vision to partners, investors, and the broader scientific community. Success in this role means accelerating our therapeutic pipeline and laying the technical foundation for an AI-first drug discovery organization.

What You’ll Do

• ‍Set the data and AI vision – Develop and lead the technical vision and strategic roadmap to scale our proprietary structural data into a robust, industry-leading machine learning platform‍
• Oversee technical execution – Guide the implementation of cloud infrastructure, MLOps, and model development pipelines with an eye toward scalability, cost-efficiency, and reliability‍
• Advance our folding platform – Work with the technical team to extend open-source protein structure models (e.g., AlphaFold derivatives) using Immuto’s experimental constraints‍
• Integrate Wet and Dry Lab - Partner with wet-lab scientists to continuously integrate biological data and validate model predictions‍
• Build and manage the team – Help recruit and mentor machine learning scientists, engineers, and data specialists as we expand‍
• Bridge science and strategy – Communicate data priorities, technical risks, and strategic opportunities to the executive team, board, and pharma partners‍
• Stay engaged technically – Contribute directly to architecture decisions, unblock key bottlenecks, and support code reviews or infrastructure builds as needed

Your Background

• PhD or MS with equivalent experience in Computer Science, AI/ML, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or related field
• 15+ years of experience in data infrastructure, AI/ML, or bioinformatics; 5+ years in a leadership role (VP, C-level, or equivalent)
• Domain expertise and proven leadership in building and scaling AI/ML teams and platforms in biotech, pharma, or healthtech
• Fluency in infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CDK, Pulumi), MLOps best practices, and distributed training setups
• Familiarity with protein structure prediction tools (AlphaFold, Rosetta, ESM) and structural biology data strongly preferred  
• Deep understanding of biological datasets (e.g., proteomics, genomics, structural biology) and their integration into machine learning models
• Experience with regulatory or compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, GxP, SOC 2)
• Excellent communicator who can operate strategically while remaining hands-on enough to guide execution
