We are seeking a part-time Tax Director to lead all aspects of tax compliance, provision, and planning. This is a high-impact role ideal for a seasoned tax professional who thrives in a hands-on environment and is excited to build and optimize tax functions at a growth-stage company.
You’ll be our go-to tax expert, overseeing everything from federal and state compliance to global tax provision and planning—with the support of external advisors. The role is part-time and flexible, requiring approximately 10–30 hours per week, with potential to scale.
What You’ll Do
- Own the full-cycle tax function, including direct and indirect tax compliance (income/franchise, sales/use, etc).
- Prepare or manage the preparation of federal, state, and international tax returns through outside service providers.
- Prepare or manage the quarterly and annual tax provision (ASC 740), including review, documentation, and submission to auditors.
- Lead tax planning initiatives and provide strategic guidance to leadership on tax-efficient structures, M&A, and risk mitigation.
- Maintain and improve internal tax controls and documentation in line with SOX requirements.
- Manage relationships with tax advisors, auditors, and governmental authorities.
- Advise internal teams (Finance, Legal, Ops) on tax implications of new products, contracts, and expansion into new markets.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and ensure compliance across jurisdictions.
- Drive efficiency in tax processes by implementing or refining systems (e.g., OneSource, internal workpapers).
What You’ll Bring
- CPA and/or MST required
- 10+ years of corporate tax experience, including work with public companies and including 4+ at Big 4 accounting firm
- Strong knowledge of ASC 740 and SEC reporting requirements
- Hands-on experience managing U.S. federal, state, and international tax compliance
- Proven ability to work independently and lead tax operations end-to-end
- Experience working with auditors and managing tax provisions in a public company setting
- Comfortable improving and documenting tax controls for SOX compliance
- Familiarity with tax software (e.g., OneSource) is a plus
