Role and Responsibilities
Burton Oil is seeking a Fractional Finance Leader that will partner directly with ownership and the Controller to provide stability, clarity, and strategic financial oversight during a period of transition and growth. This role bridges executive-level financial leadership with hands-on accounting guidance — ensuring accurate financial reporting, disciplined cost control, and data-driven decision-making to support the company’s long-term goals. This position is remote with the ability to travel to Tyler, TX.
10–15 hours per week (flexible based on business needs) Contract / Interim – 6 to 9 months
Initial 90-Day Deliverables
- Reconcile YTD financials to budget and prior year.
- Establish standardized variance and performance reporting.
- Present 2026 budget framework with departmental accountability metrics.
- Recommend cost-control and cash flow management measures aligned with company growth goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Leadership: Partner with the Controller to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant reporting, reconciliations, and close processes.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the development of the 2026 strategic budget and multi-year financial plan, integrating departmental inputs and operational priorities.
- Quarterly Financial Reconciliation: Reconcile actuals to budget, analyze key variances, and provide clear insights and recommendations for ownership.
- Cost Control & Analysis: Establish cost management systems to monitor margins, overhead, and operational efficiency.
- Decision Support: Deliver forward-looking financial analysis, scenario planning, and modeling to guide strategic decisions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Accounting, Operations, and Leadership to align financial goals with company performance and accountability.
- Reporting & Compliance: Ensure adherence to GAAP and internal controls; prepare concise, high-level reporting for ownership and lenders as needed.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in finance or accounting leadership (Controller, Director of Finance, or CFO-level).
- Demonstrated success supporting small- to mid-sized companies through financial planning, analysis, and performance improvement.
- Strong analytical and communication skills with a focus on clarity and decision support.
- Experience in oilfield services, construction, or industrial services preferred.
CPA, CMA, or MBA strongly preferred.
