Fractional CFO
Location: Remote
Engagement: Part-time, 1099 consulting
Commitment: Flexible, with a more involved initial implementation period followed by lighter ongoing support
About Nmble
Nmble Hiring Solutions is a growing, founder-led staffing and talent solutions firm. We provide direct-hire, contract, and consulting services across several professional specialties.
We are building the financial infrastructure needed to scale responsibly while preserving the high-touch, transparent service that defines our business. We are looking for a Fractional CFO who understands the economics and cash-flow demands of the staffing industry and can help us create a more structured, forward-looking finance function.
The Opportunity
This is not a traditional full-time CFO position. We need a strategic but hands-on financial partner who can assess our current processes, build practical systems, improve financial visibility, and advise the founders as the company grows.
The right person may initially oversee or complete certain financial activities directly. Over time, they will help us determine which responsibilities should remain at the CFO level and which can be transitioned to a part-time bookkeeper or finance professional.
What You Will Help Us Build and Manage
- Develop a scalable financial operating system using QuickBooks and our existing business platforms
- Create and maintain a reliable 13-week cash-flow forecast
- Develop annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and scenario-planning models
- Produce clear monthly financial reports and founder-level scorecards
- Track revenue, gross profit, gross margin, expenses, and budget-to-actual performance
- Analyze profitability by client, service line, placement type, and division
- Establish and oversee accurate monthly commission calculations
- Provide internal payroll support and oversight
- Evaluate contractor payroll exposure, working-capital needs, and the use of employer-of-record and back-office partners
- Build a scalable invoicing, accounts-receivable, and collections process
- Monitor accounts-receivable aging, days sales outstanding, client payment trends, and concentration risk
- Advise on payroll-funding options, cash reserves, credit facilities, and other strategies that can support contract-staffing growth
- Help establish financial triggers for hiring, technology investments, and other growth decisions
- Strengthen financial controls, documentation, and reporting accuracy
- Coordinate with external tax, accounting, and other financial partners as needed
- Recommend, help select, and potentially train a part-time bookkeeper or finance specialist to manage recurring transactional work
- Provide practical financial guidance to the founders without adding unnecessary complexity or overhead
Initial Priorities
During the first 60–90 days, we expect this person to:
- Review our existing financial processes, reporting, and QuickBooks setup
- Build a dependable cash-flow forecasting model
- Create a monthly financial scorecard
- Formalize our commission-calculation process
- Improve accounts-receivable and collections procedures
- Assess contractor payroll and funding risks as the business grows
- Recommend the appropriate long-term finance structure, including which responsibilities should be delegated to lower-cost support
What We Are Looking For
- Meaningful experience working with or advising staffing, recruiting, or professional-services firms with multi-state operations.
- Strong understanding of direct-hire and contract-staffing economics
- Experience with contractor payroll, employer-of-record relationships, payroll funding, collections, and working-capital management
- Previous experience as a CFO, Fractional CFO, VP of Finance, Finance Director, or senior financial advisor
- Strong QuickBooks experience
- Demonstrated ability to build cash-flow forecasts, budgets, management reporting, and executive scorecards
- Ability to translate financial information into clear recommendations for business owners
- Comfortable operating in a small, entrepreneurial, founder-led organization
- Hands-on, practical, cost-conscious, and able to build systems that are easy to maintain
- CPA, MBA, or similar credentials are helpful but not required
Engagement
This is a fully remote, 1099 consulting engagement. The initial implementation period may require additional hours, with the expectation that the ongoing commitment will decrease once the appropriate systems and support structure are established.
