Work to optimize billing processes and project profitability tracking in a professional services environment.
- Human Resources: Oversee employee onboarding and offboarding. Partner with CEO to establish compensation, bonus structures and incentive plans. Lead open enrollment for benefit plans and maintain compliance of such plans. Engage and support employees.

Contribute to company strategy by providing financial insights, conducting scenario analyses, and guiding decisions on cost management and growth opportunities. - Managing Financial Team: This position has a part-time accounting specialist reporting into it.
About You
Overall, we are looking for someone who is a strategic yet hands-on finance professional – capable of both guiding high-level financial strategy and managing detailed financial operations. You should be a proven self-starter who is comfortable working independently in a remote environment. You have exceptional attention to detail but can also step back to see the bigger picture. You are an effective communicator who can demystify financial concepts for non-financial stakeholders and collaborate across the organization. Some specific skills and qualifications you should have:
- Proven CFO Experience: Experience as a CFO, VP of Finance, or Controller, including 3 – 5 years experience in a professional services firm or in a software/technology company with a significant services division. You understand the financial dynamics of project-based revenue and services delivery.
- Financial Management & Reporting: 8+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience (with at least 3–5 years in a senior financial management role) demonstrating responsibility for financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. Deep knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and experience producing financial statements and management reports.
- Budgeting & Analysis Skills: Strong experience developing and managing budgets and forecasts. Ability to analyze budget variances, identify trends, and communicate results and recommendations to stakeholders in a clear manner.
- Compliance & Controls: Demonstrated ability to ensure regulatory compliance in all financial matters (e.g. tax compliance, audit requirements, reporting standards) and to design/maintain effective internal controls. Familiarity with finance-related laws and regulations for a U.S.-based business.
- HR Experience: Experience managing HR functions, including benefits, working with CEO on incentive compensation, ensuring compliance, serving as a resource for employees.
- Strategic Insight: A strategic mindset with the ability to perform high-level financial analysis to support decision-making. Comfortable evaluating business opportunities, investments, or new service lines and advising on financial implications.
- Hands-On Approach: Willingness to "roll up your sleeves" and handle hands-on tasks. In our environment, the Part-Time CFO will be the primary financial resource – you should be ready to dig into spreadsheets, build reports, and solve problems directly, not just delegate.
- Tools & Systems Proficiency: Proficiency with financial software and tools – for example, expertise in QuickBooks or similar accounting platforms, strong Excel skills, and familiarity with budgeting/forecasting software. Ability to leverage financial systems to improve reporting and efficiency.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to present financial information and recommendations clearly and confidently to executives, and to simplify complex financial concepts for team members or clients as needed.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (required). A CPA, CMA, and/or MBA is highly desirable, especially if it contributes to your expertise in accounting and strategic financial management.
- Remote Work & Flexibility: Comfortable working remotely and managing your own time effectively. You are disciplined in a virtual work setting. Willingness to occasionally adjust your schedule to accommodate critical deadlines or meetings (for example, during month-end close or when preparing board reports) is appreciated.
