About The Role
We're looking for a versatile, user-centered Fractional Product Designer to help evolve the design of altPath - a platform that transforms opaque, overwhelming career exploration into a motivating, hopeful, and transformative experience.
This role is about building on a solid foundation, refining our visual identity for our target audience, and continuously improving the user journey to address user needs. We’re seeking someone who can drive a user-centered design process across a distributed team and also thrive in cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Design engaging user flows, intuitive data visualizations, and supportive career activities and resources to enhance user clarity, build user trust, and encourage user action.
- Lead an update to our art direction to ensure altPath feels aligned with our mission to make career exploration accessible for young adults.
- Bring the voice of the user into every step of our process through user research, usability testing, surveys, and qualitative and quantitative data.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Product to establish priorities and refine and extend the user experience of a live product.
- Update and maintain a design system and style guide that prioritizes accessibility and visual cohesion across the product.
- Collaborate closely with engineers to ensure designs are feasible, performant, and aligned with our user experience goals.
Qualifications
- Have 5+ years of experience designing data and content-rich platforms with responsive web and mobile interfaces.
- Are experienced using Figma and user testing platforms like Userbrain.
- Enjoy a combination of product thinking, user research, prototyping, and systems design.
- Are passionate about educational equity, social mobility, and unlocking opportunity.
- Are excited about working within an early-stage, mission-driven organization.
- Stay informed about best practices in design, accessibility, and usability.
- Bring strong systems thinking, an eye for detail, and a collaborative mindset.
- Are self-motivated and work effectively in asynchronous, deadline-driven environments where responsiveness and thorough engagement with all relevant communications (i.e. in Slack, Figma comments, and Linear) is expected.
Details
- Expected workload of 10-15 hours per week
- $100-$125 per hour, depending on experience
- Remote, flexible schedule except for weekly team meetings
- Paid contract role
- Available ASAP, through December with the possibility for extension
