About Us
We are a U.S. based fintech startup building a next-generation payment platform tailored to the luxury wedding and events industry. As we prepare for launch, we are seeking an experienced legal advisor to help us navigate regulatory and compliance requirements in payments in the U.S. market.
Role
We are looking for an hourly fractional attorney with deep expertise in financial services and payments law. This role is ideal for someone who has worked with startups on money transmission, custodial account structuring, and compliance matters.
Responsibilities
- Advise on custodial account structures and “for benefit of” (FBO) account arrangements
- Provide guidance on money transmission laws, state licensing requirements, and potential sponsor bank partnerships
- Review and draft agreements related to holding customer balances and interest income
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (including consumer protection and disclosure rules) in the U.S.
- Support the company with scalable legal frameworks as we grow
Qualifications
- JD and active bar membership
- 5+ years experience in fintech, payments, or financial regulatory law
- Familiarity with custodial accounts, float/interest income, and payment processing compliance
- Prior experience advising startups or working with sponsor bank/BaaS partnerships preferred
- Ability to work on an hourly, contract basis (remote)
Compensation
$300-500/hour.
Flexible hours, estimated 10–20 hours/month to start
