About Us
We are a growing NYC-based hospitality group with three brands, all focused around warm hospitality and community building. We have a cafe by day / bar by night, a speakeasy-style cocktail bar, and a catering business.
We currently have around 75 employees, and are expecting to grow to 120+ over the next year as we expand from 3 locations to 6.
About the Work
Until now, our HR processes have been put together ad-hoc, mostly by our CEO. As we enter our next phase of growth, we're looking for a Fractional Head of People Ops to build us a proper HR foundation that is compliant and scalable.
Specifically, you'll:
- Audit our entire HR function, our processes, our tooling, our compliance, and more
- Make sure we're strictly compliant with all NY & NYC regulations
- Especially relevant is our policies around tipped employees
- Establish processes for handling workplace incidents, including conflicts between staff and/or with guests
- Improve our offboarding process
- Work most closely with our CEO
We're expecting the first phase of work to be an audit as a fixed project, which will then lead into an ongoing retainer assuming it goes well.
About You
You MUST have:
- Led People Operations for other F&B businesses with multiple locations
- Significant experience working with tipped employees
- If you've not done People Ops work for tipped employees, we won't be the right fit
- Deep knowledge of current NYC compliance requirements for restaurants and/or hospitality businesses, especially around hourly and tipped employees
- Designed processes for mediation and conflict resolution, including with guests
- Handled things like unemployment claims, PTO/sick time, employee classification issues, etc.
- Based anywhere in the USA, but with significant and current knowledge of NYC laws and regulations
Some nice-to-haves:
- Based in NYC
- Gusto experience
- Experience working with restaurant groups managing multiple different legal entities
