About Us

We are a venture-backed startup in stealth mode, developing a new product for small businesses to enhance employee compensation. Led by Chris Buttenham, a seasoned entrepreneur with a successful exit to Seismic in 2021, we aim to revolutionize how small businesses reward their teams.

About the Role

We seek a Fractional Legal Counsel specializing in compensation & benefits to join our brand new team. Your role will involve:

  • Specialized legal expertise: Our product is innovating on key aspects of small business employee compensation
  • Draft legal documents: Take a lead role in drafting key legal documents, ensuring they align with both legal standards and the strategic goals of our new technology product
  • Flexible engagement: Work with us in a fractional capacity (i.e. flexible and part-time), for roughly 10 hrs / week on an ongoing basis
  • Pull in other legal specialists if/when necessary
  • Compensation: About $500 / hr + meaningful equity in our company
  • You will be one of the first members of the team!

About You

We are specifically looking for a legal counsel with an extremely strong background as a compensation & benefits lawyer. You should:

  • Have experience with executive compensation and benefits law
  • Understands instruments like phantom stock, profit-sharing, and ESOPs
  • Comfortable navigating regulatory ERISA laws
  • Extremely familiar with Section 409a of the tax code

This role is not a fit if you can't demonstrate expertise in compensation & benefits, specifically.
