Block Productions is looking for an experienced fractional controller / bookkeeper to run day to day AP and AR alongside our production team. You'll own AP/AR and the vendor file, working with our external CPA (who handles year end compliance and tax filings) and reporting directly to the founder.

Details:
- NYC based. 1-2 days a week in our Soho office
- Available Mon - Fri to jump on odd payments and client invoicing as they come up. Billed in hourly increments.
- Starting ASAP with a handover alongside our outgoing controller before he leaves.

What you'll be doing:
- Full cycle AP: vendor invoice intake, coding to jobs, approvals, payment runs including international vendors in GBP/EUR
- AR: client invoicing per contract terms, chasing aging, collections
- Owning the vendor file: W-9s collected at onboarding, not in January
- 1099 season: prepping a high volume of 1099-NECs with our CPA (freelance production crew)
- Job cost tracking: reconciling actual spend against production budgets per project
- Month end close: bank and card recs across multiple accounts (including Amex Business Platinum), accruals, petty cash and production advances, logging and coding card spend in QuickBooks
- Payroll: coordinating crew payroll data, payroll tax and workers comp lines, 401(k) census with our recordkeeper

Must have:
- High volume 1099 experience. Production, film/TV, events or similar freelance heavy industries. Tell us your typical annual 1099 count.
- Job costing. You've reconciled actuals to estimates at job level.
- Multi entity. Comfortable with an LP/GP structure and keeping transactions in the right entity.
- Multi currency AP. Paying international vendors and handling FX in the books.
- Payroll. You've worked with a payroll provider and understand employer burden lines.
- QuickBooks. Comfortable owning the books day to day, not just data entry — chart of accounts, job costing structure, card feed reconciliation.

Nice to have:
- Photo/video production or agency accounting background
- Experience supporting a CPA through year end
- Familiar with production budget formats, line item estimates, petty cash floats, advances
This role rewards someone energetic and proactive: quick turnaround on payment requests, flagging budget issues before they're asked about, no chasing for updates, and the flexibility to jump in when things pop up. We want someone who wants to be part of the team and engaged with the projects, not just processing what lands in the inbox.
