About Maze
Maze is the user research platform that helps companies build the right products faster by making user insights available at the speed of product development.
In most companies, research demand far exceeds supply. Time, cost, and lack of access to expertise hold teams back. In today’s AI-powered world, anyone can build a product fast. The real challenge? Deeply understanding user needs and building the right product. That’s where Maze comes in.
We believe companies shouldn’t have to choose between building fast and building right. Maze makes research accessible, intuitive, and fast so product teams can put user insights at the center of every decision.
Our platform enables researchers, designers, and product managers to quickly recruit participants, run studies autonomously, and surface insights that actually drive product decisions. Our AI capabilities automate the busywork and add depth and direction to the insights themselves.
That’s why Maze was recently named the #1 user research platform in UX Tools’ Design Tools Survey—and why we’re scaling fast across industries like B2B SaaS, e-Commerce, Financial Services, Retail, and Automotive, supporting world class customers such as Uber, Amazon, Atlassian, Anthropic & more.
Maze is a Series B company backed by top-tier investors (Felicis, Emergence & Amplify). We operate a global remote workforce driven by our core values.
Remote | Contract (Fractional)
The Role
We're looking for a fractional CFO to serve as a strategic finance partner to our executive team. We have a strong Finance Director who owns the operational finance function. This role is focused on the strategic layer: helping our leadership team frame the financial dimensions of our biggest decisions, guiding our capital strategy, and bringing an external network and pattern recognition built from experience.
What You'll Do
You'll join our leadership rhythm on a regular cadence (weekly with the exec team, quarterly board prep) and serve as a thinking partner on the decisions that matter most. Specifically:
- Help the exec team evaluate where to invest, where to pull back, and how to think about growth versus efficiency at our stage
- Guide our capital strategy across the full range of options
- Partner with our Finance Director as a thought partner who sharpens strategic thinking and elevates the team’s work with the exec team and board
- Grow relationships across banking partners, investors, corporate development contacts, and advisors who've guided companies through similar inflection points
- Help shape board materials and be available for board conversations when financial strategy is on the agenda
About You
You've been the CFO, VP Finance, or Head of Finance at one or more venture-backed SaaS companies through the $10M to $100M ARR range. You've been in the room for consequential decisions and you've helped leadership teams navigate them with clarity.
You've likely done several of the following:
- Led or been deeply involved in fundraising (Series B through growth rounds) and can speak fluently about term sheets, investor dynamics, and the tradeoffs founders make
- Evaluated or participated in key company events and understand what makes a company attractive, how to run a process, and when to walk away
- Worked with venture debt providers and understand when debt is smart capital and when it creates more risk than it solves
- Built or refined the financial operating cadence for a scaling SaaS company and know which metrics actually drive decisions
You've chosen the fractional model intentionally. You're comfortable with founder-led company dynamics. You understand SaaS economics deeply (unit economics, cohort analysis, net revenue retention, CAC payback, Rule of 40) and use them as real analytical tools. You have a network in the SaaS and venture ecosystem that opens doors when we need introductions.
Engagement Details
- Commitment: Approximately 15 to 25 hours per month, with flexibility to scale during board prep, fundraising, or strategic moments
- Duration: Initial 6-month engagement with mutual option to extend
- Location: Remote. Our team is distributed globally.
- Start date: Spring 2026
Why Maze is unique
- Early-stage startup: You will join an early-stage startup with less than 150 team members. This means you'll have the unique opportunity to directly impact success and help shape the future of Maze.
- Market disruption: We believe that the way companies build products is fundamentally broken and the user research market is ripe for disruption. For too long, companies have been forced to choose between rapid development without user insights or investing months into research before bringing products to market. But there's finally a groundswell building around a path forward that eliminates this compromise - and Maze is leading the charge.
- Product-market Fit: Maze is used by 100,000+ brands across 4,000 companies, from SMB to enterprises, and in the last fiscal year, we saw 6.5M questions answered, supporting 25K decisions
