About Us
FYR Diagnostics is an early-stage biotechnology company developing cutting-edge liquid biopsy technologies for multiple disease areas. We've developed a groundbreaking molecular phenotyping technology that incorporates valuable information from multi-omics to provide highly precise insight into a patient’s disease. Our mission is to transform patient care by harnessing the power of minimally invasive diagnostics for earlier disease detection, better therapeutic guidance, improved patient outcomes, and streamlined clinical decision-making. We are pursuing multiple commercial paths:
- Partnerships with Pharma: We partner with drug developers to accelerate research and clinical trials. By identifying which patients will benefit most from specific therapies, we reduce trial failures and help bring better drugs to market faster.
- Diagnostic Assays for High-Value Applications: We’re developing solutions for multiple applications, such as early detection, profiling, and monitoring of diseases like non-small cell lung cancer or neurodegenerative disorders.
As we scale our operations and engage with strategic partners, we are seeking a Fractional Chief Business Officer (CBO) to drive strategic business development, partnerships, and commercial growth on a part-time, flexible basis.
Role Overview
In this fractional executive role, you will serve as our primary architect of business growth—identifying and securing strategic partnerships, shaping our commercial direction, and ensuring that our scientific innovations translate into real-world market impact. You will work closely with the CEO and scientific leadership to align our R&D efforts with commercial objectives and to maximize the value of our liquid biopsy platform.
Given this is a fractional (part-time/consultant) engagement, you will bring high-level expertise and industry connections without a full-time commitment. This role will be focused on high-priority activities such as partnership negotiations, commercial strategy development, and investor engagements. You will lead a talented team to help with your execution of your goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
Business Development & Partnerships
- Identify, evaluate, and engage potential partners (pharma, biotech, diagnostics companies, academic institutions) to accelerate R&D and commercialization.
- Lead deal-making efforts—from scouting opportunities, crafting term sheets, and negotiating agreements, to closing deals.
- Develop and manage strategic alliances, co-development deals, and licensing agreements to expand the reach and application of our liquid biopsy technologies.
Commercial Strategy & Market Insight
- Shape and refine the company’s commercial roadmap for both internal test development and partnerships with pharma.
- Analyze market trends, competitive landscape, and customer needs to position our technology for optimal market adoption.
- Define go-to-market strategies, pricing models, and client acquisition plans, particularly for partnerships with large pharma and biotech clients.
Pipeline & Corporate Development
- Collaborate with R&D leaders to align scientific priorities with commercial objectives and determine which projects to advance, out-license, or spin out.
- Evaluate potential acquisitions, in-licensing opportunities, or expansions that strengthen our portfolio and create long-term value.
- Chart long-term corporate strategy, identifying new market segments and future product opportunities in the liquid biopsy space.
Fundraising & Investor Relations
- Support capital-raising efforts by contributing to pitch decks, investor presentations, and strategic storytelling that highlight our technology’s market potential.
Leadership & Team Building
- Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and board on all business-related decisions, providing both high-level strategic counsel and hands-on execution.
- Mentor and lead the business development and commercial team, fostering a results-oriented, entrepreneurial culture.
- Communicate effectively across scientific and commercial teams to ensure alignment on key initiatives and deal structures.
Qualifications
- Industry Expertise: 10+ years of experience in biotech, pharma, diagnostics, or life science services, with a blend of large-company and startup exposure.
- Deal-Making Track Record: Proven history of successful partnerships, licensing deals, co-development agreements, or other relevant transactions. A minimum of 5–10 years in senior-level business development or commercial roles is strongly preferred.
- Technical & Business Acumen: Advanced degree in a life science field (e.g., PhD) and/or an MBA or equivalent business training is highly desirable. Ability to navigate scientific discussions with credibility and craft commercial strategies with clarity.
- Strategic Vision: Demonstrated ability to shape corporate strategy, prioritize market opportunities, and guide pipeline decisions. Experience with product life cycles, from early R&D to commercialization, is crucial (especially in diagnostic, biotech, or pharma contexts).
- Leadership & Communication: Exceptional negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Capable of quickly earning trust with internal teams, investors, and external partners. An entrepreneurial mindset, decisiveness, and high integrity are essential.
- Fractional Engagement Experience (Preferred): Previous experience serving in a fractional or consulting capacity at early-stage companies is a plus. Ability to focus on high-impact activities and manage priorities efficiently within a part-time schedule.
