Why Your LinkedIn Isn’t Generating Leads (And What To Fix First)

Josh Hannen is the LinkedIn coach for Fractionals Execs. Backed by a decade spent growing audiences, he teaches fractionals how to win clients from LinkedIn. His LinkedIn Lead Engine program recently helped a fractional COO drive 12 qualified leads after just 4 weeks in the program.

Josh is also offering a $49 Pipeline Audit for Fractional Jobs subscribers (normally $350). You’ll get a personalized audit showing exactly what’s holding you back on LinkedIn.

Fractional Executives say the same thing to me all the time:

“Josh, I’m on LinkedIn every day, but I’m not getting any business from it.”

A lot of them blame the platform. They assume LinkedIn is saturated, broken, or only works if you’re using it for 8 hours a day.

But almost every time, I explain the same thing:

LinkedIn isn’t broken. But the way they’re using it probably is.

When you look under the hood, the patterns are incredibly consistent.

There are 4 places where things usually fall apart, and once you understand them, you can see why you’re not getting leads (and what you need to fix first)

1. Your positioning is unclear

Most fractionals have a great offer.
They just don’t articulate it in a way that makes it easy for their buyers to understand.

Examples of where this shows up:

  • Vague or unengaging headlines
  • Generic About sections
  • Niche is implied but not stated
  • Unique advantages aren’t highlighted
  • Featured sections not used to highlight offering

If a founder lands on your profile and can’t answer the following questions in 5 seconds:

  • Who do you help?
  • What problem do you solve?
  • Why should they trust you?

…they aren’t going to scroll through your profile, read your posts, or DM you.

Without clear positioning, LinkedIn does not work.

2. Your content doesn’t speak to your ideal client

This is the most common pattern I see.

Fractionals post:

→ general advice

→ educational articles

→ industry commentary

All potentially useful, but none of them target your ideal client.

LinkedIn only works when your content speaks directly to:

→ your ICP’s pain points, their current predicament & their lived experience.

If your ideal client doesn’t get the “this is how I feel” tingle, they’ll happily scroll onwards.

3. Your writing loses attention

Fractionals often have amazing content ideas, but still lose people because:

  • the hook is weak
  • sentences are complicated
  • there’s no clear story arc
  • the value is buried in jargon
  • the post tries to say too much at once
  • there’s no clear takeaway for the reader
  • the tone feels detached or overly formal
  • they assume the audience has context they don’t

Fractionals don’t need to sound clever.
They just need to make complex ideas easy to understand.

4. You aren’t building a pipeline

This is the silent killer.

Trying to generate leads from posts alone is a risky strategy.

Because if you’re not:

  • turning profile views into conversations
  • replying to warm comments
  • moving people from posts → DMs → calls
  • following up in a natural way
  • paying attention to demand signals

…you’re relying on your content to do the entire sales job on its own.

Most fractionals don’t have a system in place to build a pipeline through the DMs & comment sections.

So what should you fix first?

Every fractional exec has a different bottleneck.

For some, it’s the headline.
For others, it’s unclear content or a missing DM rhythm.
For many, it’s a mix of all four systems not working in unison.

If you’re unsure where your biggest gap is, I’m offering a $49 LinkedIn Pipeline Audit to Fractional Jobs readers.

You’ll receive a personalised audit & video showing:

  • Why your LinkedIn isn’t converting
  • How your profile is perceived
  • Which posts are working & which aren't
  • Where your writing loses readers
  • Why your DMs aren’t turning into calls
  • Your #1 highest-impact fix

All delivered in 72 hours.

If LinkedIn isn’t driving the leads it should, this will show you why and what to do next.
