About the Role
We're a financial services consultancy that's been contracted to support a client in the food & beverage industry.
The client operates coffee shops across New York City and is looking for HR expertise to help formalize policies, strengthen compliance, and support a growing team. While the role is primarily remote, occasional on-site visits to client locations may be required.
NOTE: For this role, you'll be working underneath our consultancy to spearhead the relationship with our client.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary HR resource for leadership and staff on HR-related matters
- Develop and implement HR policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks tailored to a hospitality/retail environment
- Recommend a process for managing the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, offboarding, and employee relations
- Support recruitment for hourly and salaried roles, including posting, screening, and interview coordination
- Partner with management to establish performance management processes and employee development systems
- Potential to oversee payroll and benefits administration in coordination with external providers
- Ensure compliance with labor laws and workplace regulations in New York and beyond
- Potential to provide coaching and guidance to store managers and leadership on HR best practices
Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally with exposure to hospitality, food & beverage, or retail operations
- Strong knowledge of HR compliance, employment law, and workforce policies relevant to New York State/City
- Demonstrated ability to build HR infrastructure in growing businesses
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable balancing strategic HR initiatives with hands-on support for day-to-day employee matters
- Flexible and able to occasionally visit client sites across New York City
- Independent contractors only, no agencies
